To describe how I loved Dark Desires, the third book in the series, I only had to think of one memorable spring. I saw myself walking along the bank of the Seine, losing myself in dreamy and beautiful beyond reality images of Romantic Paris. Aja James’s writing had invoked all of those treasure feelings. Another Five-Amazing-Star book for me, absolutely!

Dark Desires was compact in terms of the characters I’d met and loved and cared for. I wanted to read more about all of them. An example, my heart broke for Inanna’s father who was held prisoner and tortured for many millennia. Yes! He was rescued! His story, please.

The plot line was complex, filled with mysteries to be solved, so engaging and captivating. And the fight scenes! OMG! I was so mesmerized by the Shadow ninjas arts! Yes. . . this book was visually rich! It was super satisfying that our hero, Ryu was now fighting at a Master Shadow ninja level himself, at only around six hundred years old.

Saving the best for last, Dark Desires was truly a perfect title! Ryu and Ava were smoking sexy, yet super romantic together. The most gifted and smartest Geneticist Ava, whose IQ read 200, was struck dumb, lost all of her social filter, with lust at the moment she met and sensed Ryu’s scent. In the end, I believed she won him over with her incomparable intelligence and big heart. As for Ryu, how had he become one of my TOP heroes of all time? Besides his smoking hot good looks, mesmerizing voice, and his fighting power? He fell for Ava’s brain! That was what he loved most about her! Though he definitely loved her other attractive qualities: innocent, affectionate, full of pleasure, full of life, and courageous. Ryu and Ava were now one of my top Happily-Ever-After couples.

Whew! This book is so good you won’t be able to put it down till the end! Ava is perfect for Ryu even though he knows he’s never going to have her or anyone for that matter, but she has other plans and will not give up! Ava is in lust from the first sniff of this magnificent man sitting next to her and after his simple touch she’s mush and by the time she finally gets that first kiss... This is a sizzling smoking hot read that will make you laugh, tear up and get your juices flowing all in one amazing book! I loved it! I can’t wait to read Aja James next book in this Dark Ones Series!
Ava Monroe is a brilliant doctor and researcher. She has gotten the opportunity to work in Japan on a very special secret project and she is excited beyond measure. However, what happens on her plane ride there eclipses her new endeavor.
Ryu Takamodo is on a mission as well and his seat on the plane is next to Dr. Monroe. He is also to meet some of his friends who use to serve with him in his service to Queen Jade. There is a plot in Japan that causes Dr. Monroe and Ryu to nearly lose their lives.
An old friend/Teacher and ? will cross paths with Ryu after many years.
In this well written third installment of this series we see heat between two people that nearly burns up the pages. These two very unlikely people finds a eternal bond after a very short period. Ava gives Ryu the peace he has needed in his life. There are other secrets and revelations made in this book that are mind blowing to say the least..

Just realized why Book Number Three, in this Aja James series, appeals to me more than the others
No Sophia!
The book opens away from the United States in general, away from New York in particular. And Sophia, the young nobly born Other, who is plainly being constructed as a lead character, remains in New York, out of this installment.
Sophia, as her development as a character progresses, is plainly going to be essential to the health and well-being of the ongoing arcs of story-lines in this multi-novel series. But right now, sheltered and immature, she is a pain in the rear end, and I don't miss her one bit. My happiest reading experiences, going through this series, are when I tune Sophia out as much as humanly possible.
Aja James has tapped into a truth of writing fictional characters, which successful writers of many generations have sworn by. It is all very well to have interesting and complicated men in the leading character line-up; but the women around, beside, and confronting these male characters had better be believable, layered, and at least as strong as they may be human. This is especially true for an audience of readers which includes women.

This is a work of fiction which fits into a currently trendy category, the "para-normal romance." Apart from the features that seem magical, to the point of fictitious, this means that power plays a vital role in the very existence of this fictional world.
And Aja James, like other authors before her, has noticed a truth that makes the difference between success and failure in engaging the emotions and feelings of her readers Passion trumps power every time. It is true in writing, it is indisputably true in drama, the theater, films, and acting. Suspense, danger, great beneficial power, great malign power -- in the end, the reader recalls the passion. And there is passion enough and to spare in each of these novels.
I also enjoy watching Aja James improve her technique and writing in every book. The first book, if one is generous, ought to be handled with tolerance, because its flaws are many. By the time this third novel appears in the series, both expertise and confidence have increased, as will the readers' enjoyment.
